Chile Adjusts Time Zones for Daylight Saving Time
Annual Shift Brings Earlier Sunsets and Longer Mornings
Santiago, Chile - March 31, 2022
Chile's official timekeeping authority, the National Institute for Standards and Technology (INTEC), has announced that the country will transition to winter hours on Saturday, April 2, 2022. This shift is mandated by Law 8777, which established the start of winter time in mainland Chile on the first Saturday of April.
During the winter months, Chile will observe Chile Standard Time (CLT), which is one hour behind Chile Daylight Time (CLDT). This means that clocks will be turned back by one hour at midnight on Saturday, April 2nd.
The change to winter time will bring earlier sunsets and longer mornings. For users accessing the official timekeeper's website (wwwhoraoficialcl), the time will synchronize automatically after the initial adjustment.
INTEC reminds users that Chile is currently one hour ahead of New York City (UTC -4) while observing CLDT. Following the transition to CLT, Chile will be two hours ahead of New York.
