Showers put damper on Saturday but dry out in time for Sunday football

Football fans in the Midwest and Northeast will have to brave the rain on Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of the Midwest and Northeast, with showers and thunderstorms expected throughout the day on Saturday. The rain is expected to be heavy at times, and could cause localized flooding. The NWS is urging residents to be prepared for possible power outages and travel delays.

The rain is expected to move out of the region by Saturday night, just in time for Sunday football. The NWS is forecasting mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s for Sunday, perfect weather for tailgating and watching the game.

Here are some tips for staying safe during the storms:

  • Avoid driving through flooded areas.
  • If you must drive, slow down and turn on your headlights.
  • Be aware of downed power lines and trees.
  • Do not go outside unless you have to.
  • If you are caught outside, seek shelter in a sturdy building.

The NWS is also urging residents to be prepared for possible power outages. Here are some tips:

  • Have a flashlight and extra batteries on hand.
  • Keep a battery-powered radio tuned to a local news station.
  • Have a plan for how you will cook and heat your home if the power goes out.
  • Check on elderly neighbors and relatives to make sure they are safe.
