Borussia Dortmund Wins DFB-Pokal Final Over RB Leipzig
Haaland and Sancho each score twice as Dortmund wins 4-1
Borussia Dortmund defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 in the DFB-Pokal final on Thursday, May 13, 2021. Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho both scored twice for Dortmund, who won their fifth DFB-Pokal title.
The match was played at the Olympiastadion in Berlin and was the first DFB-Pokal final since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dortmund took the lead in the 5th minute when Haaland scored from close range after a pass from Sancho.
Leipzig equalized in the 29th minute when Christopher Nkunku scored from a rebound after a shot from Dani Olmo. However, Dortmund regained the lead in the 45th minute when Sancho scored from a free kick.
Haaland made it 3-1 in the 87th minute when he scored from a pass from Marco Reus. Sancho then added the fourth goal in stoppage time to seal the victory.
The win was Dortmund's first major trophy since 2017 and their first DFB-Pokal title since 2017. It was also the first trophy for new manager Marco Rose.
